A Billet Mom Writes A Poem For Her Billet Sons

We Are Losing Again!

Our Billet Sons were on the road, we had three players at the time.  It was the day after Valentine’s Day.  We put the game on and as I watched I knew the guys would not be happy.  It  wasn’t going very well and they were losing.   They had lost badly two nights before to a team they always had trouble beating.  Of course none of them liked to lose.  If they lost this game I knew they would come home feeling down and taking it out on themselves.

That is when I decided that they just might need some inspiration.  So I sat down at the computer and decided to make them a belated Valentine’s Day Card.

On the front of the card  was a picture of a dog holding a heart.  I printed their name and Happy Valentine’s Day on the front as well.  On the inside I printed words of inspiration in coloured boxes.  Some of the words I included where: Smile, Have Fun, Put Others First, Be Happy, Joke, Love, Dream etc.  On the other side was a message to them from us telling them how happy we were to have them living in our home and being part of our lives.  On this same page was the poem I wrote for them as a little bit of inspiration.

I printed off the cards, a personalized one for each of them and together with some chocolate kisses put them on their bed.

Shedding Tears With My Billet Sons

This poem still brings a tear to my eye as I will never forget that day.  They came home, not talking and each of them went straight to their room.  Then two of the boys came out of their rooms.  With tears in their eyes gave me a BIG hug and said “Thanks.”  The other boy had headed to the basement and was just sitting down there, still dressed, lights off, TV off.  I went down and asked him if he had checked his room.  He said “No.”  He then went into his room and came out a few minutes later, I was waiting for him.  He too with tears in his eyes gave me a BIG hug and said “Thanks.”

This day goes down as one of my most memorable days ever!  As a Billet Mom this poem made my day and it also made those boys day, even if they had lost.   These are the memories that make you glad you decided to get into Billeting.

At the time I never gave it a title as I was just too excited to get it written.  However, I have titled it here.

LIFE

When you are standing with your feet on the ground firmly planted,

Stop, look and listen and don’t take anything for granted

But keep right on going and climb the hill to the top,

And then climb the highest mountain, before you stop,

And at the top of the mountain make sure you shout,

For the stars, next you’ll be reaching, there is no doubt.

And life will be challenging and at times you may feel cheated,

But make sure to take a stand and say “I will not be defeated.”

Be grateful for what you have, and all that to you has been given,

Stay motivated, keep focused and always be positive driven.

As throughout your life with its ups and downs you’ll be put to the test,

But nothing can get in your way if you always strive to do your very best.

Enjoy your life and all that it has to give,

Just make sure, you take, time out to live.

A CHALLENGE!….Photo Credit: lollydaskal.com

The next season two of the boys told me they still had this poem on their dressers.  They both told me that this poem motivated and inspired them.  This brought tears to my eyes.  It meant a lot to me that they still had it and read it. It also meant a lot to me that I had written it just for them and they appreciated it.  This made that season of Billeting all worthwhile.

Smiles,
