We all have them, those embarrassing moments. You know the ones where we are so ashamed our face goes as red as a beet and feels like it is burning and on fire. The event when we wish we could just crawl in a hole or hide and not be found. The times we want to run away and never come back. The moments we are so embarrassed we can’t look anyone in the eye. The occasion we can’t face someone and hope we never see them again. It doesn’t really matter when and where an embarrassing moment happens to us, we just have to be able to laugh at ourselves.
A Bra Causes an Embarrassing Moment
This embarrassing moment is for all the ladies out there who will be able to relate as soon as I tell my story. When I was growing up and living at home I remember a very embarrassing moment in my early teen years. This is a bra story that I want to share. As a woman we know how to put on a bra. Of course we do we’ve done it hundreds of times. How many times have you put it on by moving the clasp to the front to do it up? Well, on this occasion I did just that. As I was rushed for time I went out of the house without actually putting it on. Dad and Mom where waiting for me in the car so off I ran. We were on our way to Church and they didn’t want to be late. We arrived and went straight to our Sunday School Class. After class it was time to put on my choir gown and that is when it happened. My bra fell off, yes right on the floor laid out as if I had placed it that way. That wasn’t the worst part though, it just happened to land at the feet of one of the most religious men in the church. He was a very stern and strict individual who just happened to be the principal of a local school. I was beyond humiliated and embarrassed. I looked down at that bra, laid out so perfectly and quickly snatched it up and shoved it into my purse. Wow, this was beyond embarrassing and I couldn’t even look at Mr. Principal in the eye that day or for many Sundays after that.
This Billet Mom Asks “Do I Know You?”
This embarrassing moment is something that can or probably has in one way or another happened to all of us. I am sure we have all done it, waved at someone we thought we knew, they didn’t wave back and we realized it wasn’t who we thought it was. Well, here is an embarrassing moment very similar to that. I was shopping at the local grocery store and down the aisle I saw this red headed lady who I knew as a friend of mine from the past. I hadn’t seen her for years and was so glad to bump into her. I called her name and when she didn’t turn around, which I thought was odd, I went galloping down the aisle and slapped her on the back. She turned, looked at me and gave me the dirtiest look she could muster. No wonder, it wasn’t who I thought it was! I apologized all over the place and the lady finally settled down and had a laugh with me. Talk about embarrassing moments.
Billeting Embarrassing Moments
In Billeting there is always something happening and at times the situation can be embarrassing. Here are a couple of my embarrassing moments.
One time I remember clearly is when a new player arrived at our home. Another player brought him to our house and introduced him. I shook his hand and introduced myself. Then I turned around to the guy that brought him shook his hand and introduced myself to him. The only thing was the player that brought him to our home was someone I knew! He had been in our house many, many times and yet on this particular day I didn’t even recognize him. He hadn’t really changed but he was wearing a hat and I hadn’t really taken a good look at him. I was just so excited to meet the new player I wasn’t even thinking. He looked at me like I had totally lost it. I think I turned twenty shades of red in that moment.
Another time I was dancing like a mad thing in the family room. I had the music cranked up and was jumping up and down and all around. I was pretending I was the lead singer in a rock band, smashing my guitar and going nuts. I didn’t hear one of the players come in who was standing watching me. He had a good laugh and I had to join in as I am sure I was a sight for sore eyes.
Yet another memory happened to me on Valentine’s day. Read about it here.
Most people laugh at others embarrassing situations and always say “I sure am glad it didn’t happen to me.” Other times the people that witness the moment are more embarrassed then the person it happened to.
We have all experienced an embarrassing moment in our lives. You know the trip on the sidewalk, the skirt tucked into our pants, the blurting out the wrong thing at the wrong time. I believe it is how we handle these situations that count. Some people just get red faced and try to let on like it didn’t happen while others try to laugh it off. Make sure you can laugh at yourself in these situations. However we choose to deal with it doesn’t really matter, it happened!
